A Margherita daisy has popped open in my Tuscan garden.

I believe that spring fever has set in early. My daughter Becky sent me this picture from my yard in Tuscany. I know that it is still early February, but like the spring flowers I feel a longing to emerge. I have new work to share with you, which includes two bird paintings. The first one had my staff stumped for a bit. They know that I am careful about accurate representation of any given subject, so they were determined to identify this bird. With the assistance of Google, they found my bird. It is a red-crested cardinal that is native to Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay. It has been introduced into Hawaii and Puerto Rico, where it is commonly seen. Another fascinating aspect of this bird is that the male and female are similar in appearance.

My second bird is a Bullock’s Oriole, which you may recognize from my soon to be released print, Unbridled Joy, shown above. The P Buckley Moss Gallery of Blacksburg will release this print on February 11th in two sizes, framed and unframed. Although it wasn’t planned, Unbridled Joy works well when partnered with other giclées I have created. Pictured below is Nesting Time AP and Perfect Perch from 2010. Although the regular edition of Nesting Time is sold out, it is still available in the artist proof (AP) edition.
