Dear Friends,

My first show of 2018 came and went too quickly! The show was held in my Blacksburg Gallery the first weekend of February. Even the snow storm on Sunday didn’t dampen the spirits of my friends and collectors. Further enhancing the weekend was the reunion of the 2017 Moss Society Italy trip members.

Faye Marcum, Joe Jennelle and Kathy Groves enjoying the gallery on a blustery snow day.

I’m discussing remarque ideas on this year’s PBS fundraising print,
Falling Spring Falls, with Rose Martin of Blue Ridge Public Television.

Smiles abound as my daughter Becky’s husband Roberto welcomes our Cortona guests, Claudia Cesarino and Sebastian Ghezzi. Claudia’s travel agency, Time Around Tuscany, put together our delightful tour of Italy. I am sharing the link to her website in case you’re headed there.  Sebastian Ghezzi owns Del Brenna Jewelry in Cortona. It is a “must see” when visiting.

Late Sunday afternoon, Faye and Ronnie Marcum opened their home to greet fellow 2017 Moss Society Italy trip travelers. The reunion was delightful. Refreshments were served, stories told, and some light hearted competitions ensued.

Skippy, a member of the Marcum household, was the most gracious host.

My friend and collector, Michael Gowan, is observing my expertise at indoor shuffleboard.

While dining out one evening, I had the pleasure of meeting with aspiring artist and Radford native, Nathan Taylor. He showed me his work and we ended up having an impromptu art lesson in the restaurant. I love working with children.

The 2018 Foundation Quilt Raffle is on! Isn’t it a beautiful quilt? The first tickets were purchased by Marcia Musselwhite. You can get your tickets at gallery shows with Moss or by calling 800-430-1320. The drawing will be held Sunday, December 9, 2018 at the Moss gallery of Waynesboro, Virginia.

It has seemed like the longest and coldest winter this year.  But, I heard that there are hints of Spring near my Mathews, Virginia home. Sturdy green sprouts of daffodils are slowly emerging. I am reminded of this poem by Margaret Brown.

“When the groundhog casts his shadow
And the small birds sing
And the pussy willows happen
And the sun shines warm
And when the peepers peep
Then it is Spring”

Stay warm, it will be Spring soon.
