Dear Friends,

The wind blew and my tree flew! What a blustery week it has been with winter storm Riley creating havoc along its path. When my tree came down I was fortunate that it didn’t come too close to my studio.

The same weather system adversely affected my travel plans to visit Iowa this week. When the airlines were unable to get a plane into the Roanoke airport, I was provided with a shuttle ride to Charlotte, NC. From there I was able to resume air travel. Sadly the delay caused a missed dinner Saturday evening with my friends of the Central Iowa Chapter of the Moss Society.

On Sunday, March 4th I was the guest of Iowa Public Television (IPTV). Together we released my new print, Our Iowa State Fair. This print is available from IPTV as a thank you gift for a donation. Here is a link for more information about it.

As a PBS member station, Iowa Public Television has a long history, having been founded in 1967. I have enjoyed so many programs on PBS over the years and am happy to lend assistance to its continuation. PBS provides content that expands the minds of children and programs that ensure the worlds of music, theater, dance and art remain available to all Americans. Their documentaries open up new worlds for exploration, and the non-commercialized news programs provide citizens with multiple perspectives on world events and cultures.

I had the pleasure of meeting fellow IPTV guest Dr. Michael Merzenich. He is a neuroscientist who has studied brain plasticity and developed a program to maintain cognitive fitness. You may have heard of him as he is the creator of BrainHQ and was involved with the invention of the cochlear implant. Fascinating!

Every year I look forward to being reunited with Samantha. She is 15 years old and has been volunteering at the station for a number of years during my event. It was such a pleasure to see her again.

The Mountain View Garden Club joined me at the Blacksburg Gallery on Wednesday morning. They had inquired about my floral paintings and were enthralled with my new one to be released at the Waynesboro Gallery in April. I was delighted to meet them and learn of their philanthropic endeavors for the local YMCA. We got to talking and completely forgot to take photos. I hope they’ll visit again soon.

Don’t forget Daylight Savings Time returns on Sunday the 11th.

Until next week,

Love,
