Dear Friends,

“There is nothing more truly artistic than to love people.”
― Vincent van Gogh

Goodbyes are hard. Jeanette Stephens, my friend and Moss Society member, passed away this week. Jeanette and I have a long history. We met in 1988 when she and her husband Eddy became Moss dealers at Collectors Showcase, an art gallery in Dublin, VA. Oftentimes business acquaintances become friends, and such was the case with Jeanette. She became a Moss Society member in 1991 and I remember attending the grand luncheons she would have in a big old house in Dublin. Her chapter was active and with her gallery’s support, they matted prints for Society members. I will miss her. My heart is with Eddy and the family as I am unable to attend her funeral since I will be in Pittsburgh that day.

Life has a way of balancing all things and hellos are just as important as goodbyes. How wonderful it was to catch up with Cathy Gorsuch and her granddaughter, Elizabeth and to meet grandson Finn. Elizabeth was the subject of my print, Holiday Baking, which was released last fall. Elizabeth is quite the baker and has grown considerably since the last time I saw her. We reunited at King James Galleries Open House in Winchester, Virginia where together we released my new print, Spring at Bel Air, Front Royal.

When there’s a baby around, you know who is going to get my attention!

Closer to home, I had an art show at Warm Hearth Village. Warm Hearth Village is a retirement community in Blacksburg that provides insightful, respectful care for its residents. We selected this location to present my art in a home-like setting.  With my daughter Becky’s assistance, we shared a unique and personal framed collection of mine. The theme, “The P. Buckley Moss You Thought You Knew,” introduced the audience to some never seen before material which included an expansive range of subject matter and styles. Our family photographer and friend, Joe Jennelle, displayed some of his lovely photos from the Society Italy trip also. I’d like to thank everyone who attended and for the warm reception that I received.

I was delighted to meet two P. Buckley Moss scholarship recipients at the annual Partners in Excellence luncheon held at Radford University. The annual luncheon, held April 6, 2018, in Kyle Hall, gives scholarship beneficiaries and benefactors the unique opportunity to meet one another, while also serving to honor both parties.  These young people hold the future in their hands. I find that when we support any college or university, the support is received not only by students, but every person that student cares for and comes in contact with during their career.

This coming Friday you’ll find me in McMurray, Pennsylvania at Windswept Art and Frame. Gallery owner Jim Uhrig’s show print, A Gift of Life, will be available for purchase framed and unframed. I created this special print to honor the journey of transplant donors, recipients and the medical teams involved. Each image in the print carries a significant meaning, from the angel to the golfer. I am looking forward to reuniting with Jim. The show will be held on Friday, April 13th and Saturday, April 14th. I hope to see you there!

It has been quite a while since I have collaborated with an author. Poet and author Nikki Giovanni and I will be working on a book together. Over dinner we discussed potential subject matter. Stay tuned.

Joining me for dinner were Clinton Stone, Jenny Fowler, and Nikki Giovanni.

Until next week,

Love,
