Dear Friends,

The above painting, Floral Rhapsody, was in my St. Petersburg home for many years and some of you may remember seeing it. It is a large composition and it always gave me great joy to look at it. Over the years numerous inquiries were made about printing it. We have printed it and I am pleased to share my treasure with you this weekend in Waynesboro. The print will be available in multiple sizes at the Waynesboro Gallery. Please call (540) 949-6473 to reserve yours.

A Gift of Life

Sometimes when I travel I go on unexpected journeys. Such was the case when I was in McMurray, Pennsylvania last week for my show at Windswept Gallery. I’m not sure when gallery owner Jim Uhrig and I last had a show together; it has been quite some time. When I contacted him regarding the subject matter for his show print, he wanted to celebrate organ donors and their recipients. I created A Gift of Life for him. Through conversations during the creation of the print and during our show together, I learned about his astounding journey and the community that surrounds him. Jim is a double lung recipient. He received his gift of life 9 years ago. The miracle in the retelling of Jim’s journey lies in his continued work to reach out and help others. Through the book that Jim wrote, Partners 4 Life, he provides an insightful and compassionate guide for all “partners” in the transplant process. Jim said, “I wanted to stress the critical importance of finding partners that can help you the best.” The partners that he is referring to are the medical teams, the friends and families, the recipient and especially, the donor. I had the privilege of meeting some of these people at the show and their stories have touched my heart deeply. I encourage you to consider being an organ donor.

I met Shelley Zomak, Director for the Cardiothoracic Transplant Unit. She is a critical partner at University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.

Joyce Bromley, another partner, is a transplant coordinator with an insurance group.

In this picture, I am standing with 3 transplant recipients. Barb Graziano (L) received 2 corneas; Jim and his golfing buddy, Bill Cornell, received double lung transplants. Behind us is a CORE quilt. Each square of this beautiful quilt represents an organ donor and has a life story to share.
CORE stands for Center for Organ Recovery & Education and is one of 58 OPO’s (Organ Procurement Organization) under the guidance of UNOS (United Network of Organ Sharing), a private non-profit organization that manages our nation’s organ transplant system under contract with the US government. I can’t believe how many partners are involved with this complex process.

Flowers in Gold, the second new flower print that will be released this weekend.

It’s homecoming weekend April 20th –April 22nd. I am returning to Waynesboro for the Spring Barn Show and Gallery Open House. The valley is so beautiful this time of year as the leaves are emerging in a vast array of color that rivals Fall. The Barn has a new look and I’m excited to share it with you. My children got together and rehung it with framed small originals. Many of these paintings haven’t been seen before. It promises to be a beautiful weekend and I do hope you’ll join me and my family in Waynesboro!

“Health is the greatest gift, contentment the greatest wealth, faithfulness the best relationship.”Buddha

Until next week,

Love,
