Dear Friends,

Memorial Day is this coming Monday and I would like for all of you to join me in showing gratitude for our military personnel who gave their lives in service to our country. Take time this weekend with your family and friends to reflect on the sacrifices of these women and men. I would challenge each of you to remember them every day of the year.

My daughter Patty has added an illuminated flag on my garage at my

Chesapeake Bay home.

Saturday, June 4th I will be returning to Huntington, WV for a gallery open house with my friends Patti and Robert at 3rd Ave Art Gallery & Custom Framing by Jenks. For release at this show, I have created a new piece featuring Marshall University. One of West Virginia’s oldest public institutions of higher education, Marshall University’s roots date back to 1837. The school was founded as Marshall Academy, having derived its name after the 4th Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, John Marshall. Marshall University came into the national spotlight in November of 1970 when a plane crash tragically took the lives of 75 people, which included the majority of the Marshall football team, staff and university team boosters. The school rebounded with a resilience that resonates through the student body today.

Marshall University, Old Main, giclée on paper. Image size is 22-11/32” x 11-1/4”. $150. 3rd Avenue Gallery is located at 733 3rd Avenue, Huntington, WV and I will be there signing from 10 am until 5 pm. To inquire about the print or to pre-order it, you may contact the gallery at 304-522-1112. Be sure to ask about custom framing.

Fun would be my word of choice to describe my 2 day gallery open house with the P Buckley Moss Gallery of Blacksburg. I am grateful to everyone who came, and for all the good conversation and the cake we shared together.

I’d like to extend a big welcome to Jenny Lo, our newest collector of Moss originals. Jenny has a penchant for birds, especially when done in watercolors. She purchased the originals recently and had the P Buckley Moss Gallery of Waynesboro do the framing. It was her birthday, and I was glad to be a part of it.

I was pleased to meet Kendyl Brooks, who is the daughter of VT Women’s Basketball Coach, Kenny Brooks.  What a delightful person with great stories to share.

My new friends Steve Hayse (L) and his father Jack proudly display my Humpback Bridge print from 1991. For Jack’s 91st birthday they had the print taken out of the frame by a gallery and came to meet me and have it signed. Many years ago when I first saw this charming bridge in Covington, VA, it captured my artistic eye and I have returned to painting it over the years. It was so nice to meet them and see this print again.

Reunions are sweet. Gallery manager Wendy Nestor had a surprise visit from Yvonne Thayer (L) who is the mom of one of her childhood friends. Yvonne fell in love with my print, Turquoise Treasure, and ended up purchasing a framed one.

We are living in a turbulent time and it is easy to get caught up in the distress of it all. My wish is that each of us let kindness be our daily guide. In every action and comment we can affect each other’s day with a simple kind word, gesture or smile. Let’s make the world a better place one little step at a time.

Until next week,

Love,
