Dear Friends,

I treasure the four seasons of the year for the unique characteristics and diversity that each brings. But I must confess that when a bloom presents itself with such magnificence, then Summer is suddenly my favorite season. My pink night blooming cereus is putting on a show right now. I love gardening, don’t you?

Usually I am taking this picture at night.

On July 28th my daughter Patty and I had the honor of attending the District VI meeting of the Virginia Daughters of the American Revolution. It was a lovely afternoon and I enjoyed learning more about these dedicated and conscientious women. The Beverley Manor chapter had commissioned me to do a piece that featured the founders of their chapter. The new print is titled In Celebration.

Print presentation with Mary Ann Stripling (L) and Jerry Lynn Shipplett (R). Mary Ann was one of the ladies instrumental in putting this print project together. Jerry Lynn purchased the original.

In Celebration

The wonderful members of the Beverley Manor Chapter from L to R: Linda Fitt, Emma Jordan, Regent Jane Lobb, Sarah Hovsepian, Carolyn Hensley, Mary Ann Stripling, Jerry Lynn Shipplett and me.

We also were treated to a dance lesson by the Shenandoah Valley Civil War Era Dancers. Led by Tom (far RH side) and Lesley Mack (far LH side), this group shares their love of history through dance. Most of the dances that they perform and teach are from the 1700’s to the 1800’s. They are an all-volunteer, non-profit group whose main goal is to raise money for battlefield preservation.

I was delighted to see a copy of A Century of Service, The Story of the DAR. This book was written in celebration of the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Daughters of the American Revolution. The cover features my painting of Memorial Continental Hall. Inside the cover the history of the organization is presented along with information on the founders, how the DAR functions, famous members, Memorial Continental Hall, and service activities.

My daughters Becky and Mary will be joining me this coming weekend for my new print release of Dawn at the Cape. Friday and Saturday, August 3rd and 4th, we will be in downtown Blacksburg as part of the annual Steppin’ Out Festival.  We are one of the sponsors and you can find me at the festival in booth C28, which is located on College Ave., the east end, near the Lyric Theatre. For more information to help plan your visit, please follow this link to the festival site.  On Sunday, August 5th, we will be at the Moss Gallery located on 223 Gilbert St. I hope you will stop by.
