Dear Friends,

Pope Francis, Becky Ghezzi and Lois Badey give a thumbs up for the Steppin’ Out Festival. You never know who might show up in Blacksburg!

The rain on Friday did not seem to dampen anyone’s spirits as we came together in Blacksburg for my new print release at the Steppin’ Out Festival. The print is titled Dawn at the Cape and incorporates my geese in the setting of the historic Hatteras lighthouse. This tall lighthouse was constructed in 1870 and is one of three lights that serve as an active aid to navigation along the Atlantic coast. I was inspired to paint it again because it is such a beautiful place and it evokes many fond memories of past family vacations.

Friends and family gathered together at our sponsor booth at the Steppin’ Out Festival held last weekend in Blacksburg, Virginia.

All of my life I have been blessed to receive help when I need it. Without the help of 2 insightful teachers, I may never have realized my potential as an artist. They recognized that I had a learning difference and was not a dummy.  The journey was hard at times but their encouragement along the way helped me to continue forward and work harder. As an adult and successful businesswoman, I wanted to give others the same chance. With the Moss Society and the Moss Foundation working together, we as a group have provided opportunities to young artists, who like me, learn differently. I want to share a letter that was received in the Foundation office last week. It is from one of the PBM Endowed Scholarship winners. Too often we don’t get to see the faces and hear firsthand what our donations are working towards. Please meet Andrew Swiger, who is in his final year of college in graphic design.

While the staff at the Portfolio has been busy putting together the souvenir tour booklet for the September Society Bus Trip, I have been busy working on a little something special to share with my fellow travelers. It is a limited edition porcelain ornament of Monticello. Take a look!

Commemorative ornament of Monticello.

I am excited about this trip. I have been an artist for 50 years and the majority of my time has been spent in Virginia. There’s a certain nostalgic intrigue about revisiting places of old. We will be touring some places that I have painted and I will be sharing the area past and present as seen through my eyes. What makes this such a special trip is to have you, the collector and friend, along to let me see the area through your eyes. I am especially looking forward to seeing Luray Caverns because 25 years have passed since I last visited. It’s always fun to see what has changed and what remains the same, wouldn’t you agree? Of course visiting my son John’s restaurant, Moonshadows, will be wonderful too. There are spaces available for this trip and I hope you’ll come on this special journey with me. Here is a link for the trip information,

Until next week,
