Dear Friends,

Even though my primary residence is in Blacksburg, Virginia, a trip to my Chesapeake Bay studio is always welcome. I would liken it to having fresh air in my sails. I went there a few days before the Open House with the Mathews Historical Museum so I could paint and my daughter Patty and I could spend some time together. She put me to work on the mower and we had the best time harvesting the garden.

The fruits of our harvest resulted in 2 large pots of tomato sauce. I’d like to thank Kirsten Thomas for providing us with additional tomatoes. This sauce is going to be such a wonderful treat once we are deep in the throes of winter.

How heartwarming to see this greeting in the display window upon my arrival to the Mathews Historical Museum for my signing event that was held Sunday, August 14th!

The Mathews Historical Museum was filled with friends and collectors who came for the open house. The museum has put together an impressive pictorial collection of Mathews military service personnel and has them displayed on the walls, grouped by the campaign in which they served. It seemed fitting that my signing table was set up with the World War II veteran display.

The museum displays prompted a lively discussion with my friend Rudy.
On the wall above my head and a little bit to the left, I found the picture of sailor Gilbert Hall who was my friend and neighbor in Mathews.

Another exhibition that was prominently displayed in the museum was the life story of Captain Robert Roland Hudgins. I had the privilege of calling Robert and his wife Janice my friends. The story of his life as a commercial fisherman and menhaden captain was told through photographs and memorabilia that was shared by his family.

In the picture on the left, I am joined by Josie Thorpe. Josie is one of the people behind the fundraising drive to get the museum fully up and running. She and I had a good chuckle about our dress being beautifully color coordinated.

Pictured in the middle is a playful quilt created and donated by Elsa Verbyla for the museum’s quilt raffle. The drawing for this quilt will be held on Saturday, September 10th, during the annual Mathews Market Days Festival. Tickets are available through the museum. Because they are only open on Saturdays from 9 am until 3 pm, it is best to contact them by visiting https://www.mathewsvamuseum.org/ and clicking on contact us. You will need to scroll to the bottom of the page to access the correct form.

I was so happy to see Sandy Warhol again, pictured with me on the right. She creates beautiful wreaths (I am pleased to have one), and she and Barbara Bass were responsible for the lovely floral displays around the museum.

We had a full house and I hope everyone who came had as good of a time as I did. Thank you for coming
.

Next up on my schedule is a visit to Belle-Hampton Farm near Dublin, Virginia on Sunday, August 28th. The Wine and Wagyu Event is being held that day and the print edition of my new painting titled,

Belle-Hampton, is being released as a fundraiser for the Wilderness Road Regional Museum. Information for this event is online and reservations are needed to attend.  Here is the link to their event site. https://givebutter.com/IpyFdg

The Belle-Hampton print for release at the Wine and Wagyu Event is $75, with an image size of 7.5” x 11.5”. Following the event, the Wilderness Road Regional Museum will have it available for purchase. Look for information on this print next week at pbuckleymoss.com.

I want to give you an update on the P Buckley Moss Society trip to the British Isles in May of 2023. The Society reserved 35 spots and 21 have been filled. If you are considering making this journey with me, I encourage you to make your reservation soon by calling Collette Travel at 800-852-5655. Select option 3. They are very helpful and will answer any questions that you may have.

Until next week,

Love,
