Dear Friends,

I am grateful that my daughter Patty in Mathews, VA was spared from the devastation that Florence has and continues to wreak. We are preparing for the rising waters in Radford as the predictions warn that the rivers may breach their banks. My heart goes out to those who have lost everything. The aftermath of this powerful storm will take a long time to recover from. As we all know someone affected by this storm, let’s lend a helping hand.

Calm prevailed over my bay home in Mathews as Florence took a southerly course. Pictured is the view from Hole in the Wall Waterfront Grille on Gwynn’s Island on Thursday evening.

The Moss Art Center’s Opening Night was last Saturday and I was so fortunate to have received tickets. Grammy winning pianist, Pablo Ziegler and his ensemble took the stage and tantalized the audience with their Argentine New Tango. This music is a vibrant musical hybrid of traditional tango, American jazz, and European art music. The Paul Taylor Dance Group reunited with Mr. Ziegler to recreate their acclaimed Lincoln Center Out of Door performance. The dancers brought this lively music visually to life. I was totally enthralled. Becky and I forgot to take pictures.

The rest of September is promising to be a busy month. This Thursday, September 20th, I will be welcoming our 2018 Moss Society Fall Bus Trip travelers to my Barn in Waynesboro. We will kick off the trip with some hors d’oeuvres and a visit by special guest, Peter Rippe. Many of you will remember meeting Peter as he was the first curator of my museum. He will share some insights of the early days of my art as only Peter can. I am looking forward to seeing him again. I will be sure to have some photos to share with you next week.

Moss Galleries staff member Angie Clawson is making the commemorative ornament of Monticello which is to be given to each traveler.

Saturday, September 30th I will be at Sinkland Farms in Christiansburg, VA for Art in the Barn, the annual fundraiser for Feeding America of Southwest Virginia. I will be available to meet collectors and sign prints from 11 am to 3 pm. It is also the opening weekend for their Pumpkin Festival. I just finished the painting that we will be releasing for this event. I will have more information for you in next week’s newsletter.

As promised, I have an update on the progress of the new painting that I am doing of the Barter Theatre in Abingdon, VA. The somewhat gloomy weather of the past few days has allowed me a lot of good quality studio time.

“The pain of parting is nothing to the joy of meeting again.”

-Charles Dickens

Until next week,

Love,
