Dear Friends,

Mother Nature has a way of reorganizing your day, and such was the case this past Sunday. I was disappointed that the last day of my Winter Barn Show and Gallery Open House was cancelled due to snow. I must say though, I did enjoy watching the snow come down; it was so beautiful outside! Longtime friend and Moss Society member, Shirley Collins, braved the storm and came to Waynesboro so that we could hold the Moss Foundation Quilt Raffle drawing. The lucky winner of this year-long raffle was Thomas G. Hayes.  Thomas confessed to having purchased $100 worth of tickets because he was so enamored with the quilt. My deepest gratitude to Lana Kleimon who created this masterful quilt using my centerpiece, to Thomas, and to everyone who purchased raffle tickets. What greater gift can we provide for our young people other than the opportunity for education?

While I do not have any pictures to share from our snowy adventures on Sunday, I do have some from the Barn Show on Friday and Saturday that will warm your heart.

The Barn Show opened on Friday, December 7th, which is also known as Pearl Harbor Day. I was only 8 years old when the bombing occurred but I remember its somber effects on everyone around me. It was fitting then that Jim Belcher stopped by to share a very special book that his father started and he finished. His father was one of the surviving members of the crew of the U.S.S. Indianapolis that was torpedoed and sunk July 30, 1945. Often serving as the flagship of the 5th Fleet based in Pearl Harbor, the Indianapolis had just completed a secret mission that directly contributed to the end of the war. In this very special book, Jim’s father tells of his experience. Other sailors that survived were located by Jim and he added their stories, providing a compelling and insightful record of this horrible event.

Jim Belcher shares his father’s story with me while I sign
Spirit of Service, a print I created to celebrate our service men and women.

Wanda, Cheryl and Dot donned their Moss aprons with big smiles, and helped out at my Barn Show. I want to thank all of the Moss Society members and friends who help make this such a festive event.

What a wonderful group of children who joined me for my Christmas tree lighting! Students from Waynesboro’s Berkeley Glenn Elementary School made all of the decorations

I never get tired of seeing the thrill of discovery, and the joy that the students have over their completed art project. It makes my Christmas very special

As I am writing this, I have begun my journey to my next show. I will be at Gallery Art Center in Columbus, Ohio this Friday and Saturday, December 14th and 15th. My daughter Patty will be travelling with me this time. The address is 4725A Reed Road, Columbus, OH 43220, and the hours will be 11am – 5pm Friday, 10am – 5pm Saturday. This show has more of a family reunion feel to it because gallery owner Suzi Campbell has been a Moss dealer since 1981. Her business philosophy is to provide exceptional customer service, while sharing a love of art. Together we will release my new print Early Winter’s Morn.

Early Winter’s Morn, framed by Suzi and her staff. Isn’t it lovely? To preorder this print or make show inquiries, please call GAC at 614-442-1109.
