Dear Friends,

Home again, home again, and you might be asking, “weren’t you just at home?” I would say, “yes, but everywhere I’ve lived holds a piece of my heart, so I’m at home in a lot of places.” My final show of the year brings me home to Blacksburg, Virginia this weekend with my daughters at the Moss Gallery of Blacksburg. I can hardly believe that we are already knocking on the door of 2020, can you?

The show will begin on Saturday, December 21st at 11 am. Kent Square is where the gallery is located (216 S Main St), and being so close to Christmas, the lobby is fully decorated with a collection of beautiful trees and gingerbread houses.  You’ll get to be a part of this festive occasion when you visit. This winter wonderland is raising money for a local non-profit called Micah’s Backpack, a weekend backpack feeding program for hungry children in the Blacksburg community.

Here is your invitation to join me this weekend in Blacksburg for a celebration of Christmas, friendship and community. Be sure to get in on the drawing for the gallery’s Moss Gift Basket.

Now it’s time for math, but just a little bit, I promise. Here is the simplest equation you ever had to master. The basic formula for a great weekend is: Family + Friends + Food. Add a splash of art, a little adventure, and a whole bunch of new friends, and you have the most wonderful time like I had in Waynesboro last weekend. I made sure that I arrived early so that I could visit the Claudius Crozet Blue Ridge Tunnel. You may remember that in October the Moss Gallery of Waynesboro and I released a print to help raise funds for the restoration of this historical landmark. The mission of the restoration is to incorporate use of the tunnel into recreational trail systems. This will benefit hikers, walkers, runners, bicyclists and naturalists. For information on the tunnel, please visit http://blueridgetunnel.org/.

Chilly but bright sunny day as I visited the Claudius Crozet Blue Ridge Tunnel with members of the tunnel board. You can even see the light at the end of the tunnel

What better way to warm up than having dinner at Moonshadows Restaurant in Luray! Joining me in this photo, from L to R: my daughters Patty and Becky, daughter-in-law Maureen, and my son John.

Once again I find myself wishing I could be an art student again, this time at Wilson Elementary School, after meeting art instructor Christy Pilson (R) and principal Dawn Young. What dynamic educators, and I am so grateful to their students for all the hard work put into decorating my Christmas tree.

Sunday morning arrived and I shared a holiday season breakfast with members from the Moss on the James Chapter of the P. Buckley Moss Society. It is a special gathering for me and we try to do it every year. Missing from this year’s breakfast is Donna Cousins, who is in the hospital. My love and best wishes for a speedy and complete recovery

Highlights of my Sunday gallery visit included a preview of the lovely Moss gift basket that was thoughtfully put together by my daughter Ginny, and the drawing for the winner of the 2019 year long Moss Foundation quilt raffle, by my son-in-law, Corrado. Christina Schacht won the basket. The quilt was won by Greg Donlon of Pennsylvania. Greg has purchased $100 of tickets every year at King James Galleries of Gettysburg in support of the Moss Foundation mission. Thank you everyone who participated in the raffle.

My weekend extended into the week as I gathered with the Moss in the Country Chapter of the Moss Society for a big Christmas party. Many of the members of this chapter helped me at the Barn over the weekend, so it felt like the Barn Show was just continuing at a new location!

Next week at this time we will be celebrating Christmas. For me, it is a time of renewal and I would like to close with a thought for the New Year by Thomas S. Munson. He said, “Don't save something for a special occasion. Every day of your life is a special occasion.”

Until next week,

Love,
