Dear Friends,

My tree survived Pi the Cat this year. Isn’t she a lovely addition to it?

Humor and good spirits filled my home as my family gathered to celebrate Christmas. I am blessed to have such a family, and also that many of them are such good cooks. It was a wonderful time to laugh and relax and reflect on this past year.

On Christmas Eve I went to my daughter Mary’s home for dinner. Her table was beautifully set and the food was divine. I always look forward to this time together. Joining me from L to R: granddaughters Sophia and Sarah, son-in-law Roberto, daughter Becky, son-in-law Kerry and grandson Sean.

Not all of my family was able to come to Radford for Christmas. My daughter Patty was at home in Mathews sharing some holiday cheer with our neighbors. Pictured with her in a rare moment of calm are her dogs, Carmen (L) and Elsie.

Since I moved to Radford, all of the New River Valley communities, including Blacksburg, have made me feel right at home. My last show of the year was in Blacksburg and being so close to Christmas, it was very merry. I have pictures to share with you that best tell the story.

I had a visit from Mrs. Santa Claus. She stopped by to check and see if I had been naughty or nice.

Donna Anthony of Salem, Virginia was the winner of the Moss gift basket from the Blacksburg Gallery. She was thrilled that the basket included a nutcracker since she had just purchased my print,
Nutcracker, Prince of Dreams.

The Blacksburg downtown merchants hold an annual “Find Freddie the Frog” contest every Christmas season. The frog is hidden in one of the local stores. This year Freddie hid in our gallery Christmas tree. Hanna Pratt (pictured here) found Freddie and won a $10 gift certificate.

Christmas and the New Year is time for reflection and renewal. With me in this picture are Dave Snow and Helen Flora who, like me, used to live in Waynesboro, VA. It was so good to see them again!

Next week I will be writing from the Nieuw Statendam as I will be on a 7 day western Caribbean holiday cruise with my daughters Patty and Mary. I am looking forward to reuniting with dear friend Pat Tobin and getting some much needed rest in the warmth.

“Write it on your heart that every day is the best day of the year.”

-Ralph Waldo Emerson

Happy New Year.
