Dear Friends:
I was recently notified by Cooper Union’s Alumni Association that they have selected me to receive the inaugural Peter Cooper Public Service Award. The award was established just this year and will be presented annually to a graduate of Cooper Union who best exemplifies Peter Cooper’s life of service to the public. I am very excited and honored to be the first recipient of this prestigious award.
The awards ceremony will be held at Cooper Union on April 13. I had already committed to going on a Quilt Camp at Sea cruise the beginning of April with my daughter Mary before I found out about the award; and, my son Chris, who lives in New York, is going to attend and accept the award on my behalf. I wish I could be in two places at the same time, but I know Chris has the same respect for Cooper Union as I do and is taking pride in accepting the award for me.
In the meantime, I’m looking forward to my upcoming show with The Framery in Marietta, Georgia. I’ll be with my Atlanta area friends and members of the Mossaphile Chapter of the P. Buckley Moss Society March 22-23. On the Friday before the show, my daughters Mary and Becky and granddaughters Kate and Sarah and I are going to have a Beluga and Friends Encounter at the Georgia Aquarium in Atlanta. I’m so excited to be going swimming with these beautiful, big, toy-like whales. This opportunity is being arranged by Joy Llewallyn, who is the daughter of my dear friend Sue Brissey, who has passed away. Sue and her husband Larry used to travel with us on all the trips. Joy is like another daughter. She was so very good to her parents and loved them so much. I just adore her. Week after next, I’ll have pictures to show of our adventure at the Aquarium and tell you all about it.
Barry and Pam Watson of The Framery and I will release my newest print of the area, depicting the Concord Covered Bridge in Smyrna. Barry will have the prints displayed in a variety of framing options. Come and say hello and meet my family who will be there and see all the wonderful work Barry does with my paintings. There will also be a selection of originals there both framed and unframed in portfolios for whomever can’t get to my Museum and is interested in new originals.
Concord Covered Bridge features the covered bridge spanning Nickajack Creek in Smyrna, Georgia, and the area was the site of the Battle of Ruff’s Mill during the War Between the States. It will be released during my show with The Framery in Marietta, Ga., March 22-23. For more information, please contact the gallery at 770-977-8667.
The following week, on March 29, I’ll be with my friends in Winchester, Virginia, including members of the Society’s Daughter of the Stars Chapter. Marian Sempeles of King James Galleries of Winchester and I will release two new prints featuring the historic mill in Strasburg, Virginia. I’m looking forward to that show, too.
Riding by Strasburg’s Old Mill (left) and Spring at the Spengler Mill (right) will be released during my show with King James Galleries of Winchester (Va.) on March 29. For more information, please contact the gallery at 540-869-9025.
Love,
Pat
Update on 2014 Society Trip
The San Francisco/California Wine Country Trip has filled up very quickly for the dates that we have chosen (August 29-September 5). There are only 23 spaces available for us. It is essential that, if you are seriously considering this fun-filled adventure, you contact Johan van Zyl, our travel consultant, immediately and provide a credit card for your $200 deposit. We will all receive a 5% group discount, one "free" tour if we book 15 or more persons (that we will divide among all participants), and (if you pay in full by April 30, 2014) an additional 5% discount. We don't want to lose any of the available spaces, but Trafalgar Tours will only hold the spots for a short amount of time, so we must move quickly.
Johan will assist with flight arrangements for anyone who wishes his support. However, the most important element at this time is to guarantee that we have the 23 spaces.
If you have any questions, please contact me (Bonnie-Lou Binnig at 727-786-1960 or blbinnig@yahoo.com) or Johan van Zyl, President, Curlew Travel, at 727-789-1771 or Johan@CurlewTravel.com.
