Dear Friends:
I’m really getting a lot of painting done down here in St. Petersburg,
Florida. I love the studio and the quiet. How I wish I could
stay another two weeks, but I’ll be flying back to Virginia on
June 1. I have a show with Graphics, Etc., in beloved, historic
Roanoke June 4-5, and my granddaughter Sarah Donnelly is graduating
from Radford High School the night of June 5. I’ll leave
Roanoke after the show and drive down to Radford for Sarah’s graduation.
Spring Together will be released during my show with Graphics, Etc.,
in Roanoke, VA, June 4-5. For more information, please contact
the gallery at 540-982-8441.
At last I’ll get to see Roanoke’s beautiful,
new Taubman Museum of Art before the show starts the morning of June
5. The Moss in the Valley Chapter of the P.
Buckley Moss Society is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year,
and I’m delighted to be able to join them for a tour of the museum
and lunch in its café to celebrate.
The paintings I’m working on now are mostly for shows this fall,
and I’m looking forward to showing them to you as the show dates
draw closer. One that I can show you now is my painting for this
year’s Mathews Market Days poster. Mathews Market Days is
an annual event held in Mathews, Virginia, the weekend after Labor Day.
I’m most honored to have been asked by the Mathews Market Days
Committee to create the image for this year’s poster.
Mathews Maritime Heritage will be released as a limited edition
print as well as a poster during Mathews Market Days, September 11-12.
The image features Mathews County’s two lighthouses; New
Point Comfort, which has become a symbol of the County, and Wolf
Trap.
While I’ve been very mindful of getting the show
paintings completed, I haven’t been able to resist having fun
and getting excited about doing special things that thrill me with new
ideas that come to me as I work. Ideas for paintings come to me
while I’m working on other paintings and as I see things while
I travel and experience life. I have to capture the ideas as I
have them, so I often have several paintings going at the same time.
It hasn’t been all work and no play, though. Since I’ve
been down here, I’ve been to see Angels and Demons with
friends. Because it was filmed in Italy, I knew a lot of the buildings,
and I caught myself several times not paying attention to the dialogue
or the plot. I was so fascinated by the architecture and remembering
being in a particular building or wondering why I had never been in
another. I’ll be going to Italy again in a few weeks, when
I go down for the P. Buckley Moss Society’s group
cruise on the Mediterranean. I wish all our friends could
come!
I also went to see Romeo and Juliet, put on by a local group
in an empty store. The floor was cement, and the walls were covered
with sheets; but, it was absolutely adorable! I loved it.
The St. Petersburg Museum of Fine Art has an Andy Warhol Exhibit that
I’ve been to see, too. St. Petersburg has a lot to offer!
I celebrated my birthday on May 20, and I’ve been receiving lots
of wonderful cards. Thank you so much for sending them.
I’ve enjoyed each and every one.
Patricia Buckley as a toddler.
Love,
Pat
