Dear Friends:

I’m most grateful for my children and grandchildren, and I was a very proud grandmother this past weekend.  I flew up from St. Petersburg, Florida, on Allegiant Air to attend my grandson Sean’s graduation from Radford High School.  The flight only took two hours, which was great!  The graduation ceremony was held at the school’s Bobcat Stadium, and the students and faculty had to march in not once but twice!  A thunderstorm was looming, so the students had to file back out as a precaution.

Sean and classmate Madi Shepherd each received the Norman G. Lineburg Scholarship.  Sean will attend Virginia Tech this fall.  Go Hokies!

Family tradition—like their father Kerry Donnelly, Sarah and Sean are Hokies.

Sean’s graduation was Friday, and on Saturday we went to Radford University to watch my granddaughter Chiara Gabellieri compete at the Virginia State A Track Meet.  She competed for Wilson High School (Augusta County) in the 4 x 100 meter relay, the 4 x 400 meter relay, and the 400 meter events.  Chiara finished 5th in the 400 and was very happy with that finish.  The 4 x 400 relay team placed 7th, and the 4 x 100 relay team placed at least 10th or better.  Congratulations, Chiara, and the team!

My Grandfather Buckley used to call me “Split the Wind” because I was always running.  I think Chiara has inherited the nickname.

Wilson
High School held its 2012 graduation the same weekend as the state track meet.  Four team members were seniors, so they got to walk out on the field at State for a small ceremony of their own.

We all stayed at my daughter Mary’s cabin on Claytor Lake for the weekend.  It was so beautiful and peaceful there.  There weren’t very many people staying on the lake for some reason; they must have all been at graduations and state competitions!

Mary’s cabin—what a wonderful getaway!

L. to R.:  My granddaughter Chiara, my son-in-law Kerry Donnelly, Joey Conduff (holding my granddaughter Sarah), my grandson Sean, my daughter Mary (Sean and Sarah’s mother), me, my daughter Ginny (Chiara and Picco’s mother), and Picco.

I’m back in Florida this week and painting away.

Love,
Pat
