Dear Friends:

We so enjoyed our weekend with members of the Moss on the James, Moss in the Valley, Moss in the Country, and Pat’s Blue Goose Chapters of the P. Buckley Moss Society.  We all met on Saturday at the Moss Arts Center at Virginia Tech and were given a private tour of the whole building by Lois Badey, Senior Director of Development for the Center for the Arts.  Our Blacksburg gallery staff member Mimi Boone joined us on the tour.

We saw The Cube, which is the practical lab for the Institute for Creativity, Arts, and Technology (ICAT), and provides a highly adaptable space for immersive environments, intimate performance, audio and visual installations, research, and experimental investigations of all kinds.  We also saw the Sandbox, which is a large room where professors and students can plan projects and experiments.  Once they have been planned in the Sandbox, they are taken to The Cube to be put into practice.  Continuing on our tour, we saw the lobbies in the glass-front area where luncheons and dinners are held and also toured some of the art galleries.  There are three in the Moss Arts Center.  As we were leaving the building to walk over to our Blacksburg gallery for a tour, we saw Christy Moughon and her family.  Christy is a former staff member of my Mathews, Virginia, distribution center and publishing company that also serves as the Society office.  She and her husband were touring colleges with their children.  It was so good to see her again.

This fun group photo was taken on the spiral stairs at the Moss Arts Center.

Moss in the Valley member Don Bunce (seated) made us another gorgeous quilt, incorporating one of my hand-painted centerpieces, for the P. Buckley Moss Foundation for Children’s Education.  It will be used in a future fundraising effort for the Foundation.  Don has been so kind and generous with his beautiful work.  My daughter Mary and I are looking forward to visiting him at his home in Hardy, VA.  Mary is also a quilter and is excited about going, as am I.  He said that he will give me some hints in appliqué.

Members of the Moss on the James Chapter posed with my daughter Mary and me for this picture at my Blacksburg gallery.  L. to R.:  Audrey Woodcock, Gay Bowman, Marie Ehrlich, me, Mary, Donna Cousins, and Betty Sacra.

After seeing our Blacksburg gallery, the fun continued with dinner in the Latham Ballroom at The Inn at Virginia Tech.  During dinner we showed the chapter members our new ornaments for 2015, which include Love’s Duet, Baby Boy, Baby Girl, and The Tree Lighting!, and gave some Artist’s Proofs of the ornaments as door prizes.  The ornaments will be available for purchase mid-July.

After dinner we headed back over to the Moss Arts Center to see a performance of Madame Butterfly by members of the Ash Lawn Young Artists, who are part of Ash Lawn Opera, based in the Charlottesville, Virginia, area.  They were so good, and the whole performance was so enjoyable!

Sunday morning, chapter members gathered at my house on Claytor Lake in Radford for brunch and an etching demonstration by my daughter Becky and me.  Everyone received a small etching sample from the demonstration.

Enjoying Sunday morning with chapter members on my deck.

If other chapters would like to take a tour of the Center and see our Blacksburg gallery, please contact the gallery at 540-552-6446.

Happy Independence Day this Saturday!  Have a wonderful and safe 4th of July, and let us all remember the sacrifices our soldiers make to ensure our freedoms.

Love,
